Our Team

Our counselors work tirelessly to create a vibrant and exciting Camp J community. They model what it means to be confident, caring, and compassionate for our campers.

Our hiring process is competitive, enabling us to hire the very best experienced team to care for our campers each summer.

Before campers arrive, our staff participate in our comprehensive staff training. Counselors will learn and practice the skills needed to ensure success for each individual camper.

We also devote plenty of time to building our team, because the close-knit community of our staff is the foundation of our incredible Camp J culture each summer

Our Leadership Team

Meet the people who make it all happen!

Sarah

Sarah Weissman

Senior Camp Director

From Sarah’s first summer at URJ Eisner Camp when she was 10, she has loved everything that camp has to offer – from the fun activities, to making friendship bracelets, to showing spirit during color war, to the lasting friendships and memories – camp has been her happy place. Sarah loved going to camp so much that once she was old enough, spent 8 summers working at URJ Crane Lake Camp, first as a bunk counselor and then as a Unit Head for their youngest age group. Summers are for camp and now 20+ years later, she is still spending her summers at camp.

Originally from Upstate NY, Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in Business from SUNY Buffalo and a Master’s in Education from the College of Saint Rose. Prior to starting at Shalom Orlando, she was the Camp Program Director and later Youth and Teen Director at The Bender JCC of Greater Washington and was the Assistant Camp Director at The Stamford JCC. Sarah has fully adjusted to the Florida lifestyle, she loves the warm weather year round (and doesn’t miss the snow at all). She loves visiting Disney World and Universal, enjoys baking and trying out new restaurants.

Alex McCrary

Assistant Director of Camp and Youth

Camp has always been an important fixture in Alex McCrary’s life. From preschool to the 5th grade, Alex spent her summers at the Mandel JCC in Boynton Beach singing, laughing, and making memories. Now, she has the pleasure of creating those memories for the next generation of campers, and she couldn’t be more excited.

Alex recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rollins College with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and is currently earning her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While earning her undergraduate degree, Alex spent much of her time at Rollins’s on-campus preschool, where she studied development in 3-5 year olds. Aside from school, Alex has been a camp counselor at the Mandel JCC in Boynton Beach, FL for the past three summers, and she’s been working with children in similar settings for 9+ years. Alex is thrilled to get to know your children and watch them explore their interests at Camp J, and throughout the year at Shalom Orlando!
